Local areaThe environment around Super-Besse is typical of the Les Volcans National Park, which is famous for the extinct volcanoes of Mont Dore and Puy de Sancy. In this area you will find a very wide range of activities. For example, 600 meters away there is a lake where you can sail or windsurf. The lake also has a beach and a sunbathing area. There is an inline skating track and a very special off-road inline skating track! Another particular sport is the biathlon, but tennis and hiking are also possible. From Super-Besse there is a cabin lift which brings you to an altitude of 1800 meters. From here you have a magnificent view of the surroundings. You'll also find medieval villages, Romanesque churches, fountains, mills, etc. in the area. In short, a region with lots of beautiful nature, plenty of culture and more than sufficient opportunity for relaxation. The park is located 56 km. from Clermont-Ferrand. In winter there are plenty of opportunities for skiers and cross-country skiers. The ski-lift for Alpine skiing is located 500 meters away and connects to the Grand Sancy ski area which lies at an altitude of between 1350 and 1885 meters. This ski area has a total length of 85 km. On average there are 285 days of snow, plus 42 ski lifts and even night skiing. There is a free park for snowboarders and you have the possibility to try snow-kiting (gliding on the snow with the aid of a kite). The ski area has a total length of 120 km and begins just 200 meters from the village. This area is considered the main cross-country ski area in France. It is popular because of the variation in landscape, which includes forests, mountains, volcanoes and frozen lakes. For children from 3 months of age there is a creche and for children from 4 years of age there is a snow garden located at the beginning of the slopes (You are advised to make a reservation). You can also find a super slide using tires in the vicinity. Furthermore, there is the medieval town of Besse-en-Chandesse Murol with a castle and of course, the volcano! In February there is even a winter jazz music festival.
