Local areaJaujac is surrounded by young volcanic mountains. It is situated in a national park which has many kilometers of trails running through the forests and mountains. In the summer the various rivers provide numerous places to swim or wade. No matter the season, this region is a great destination for both young and old. In the middle of the village you will find a typical French village square with old trees, men enjoying a game of boules and children playing. Both summer and winter, there is always someone playing! There are also two cafes on the square and a tobacco shop where you can buy Dutch newspapers throughout the year. Every Tuesday and Friday there is a market held on the square where local farmers sell their fruits and vegetables and cheese. There is also a tourist office, supermarket, three hairdressers, two butchers, a pharmacy, two doctors one dentist, two restaurants and a pizzeria. Everything you need can be found in the village. There are many organized activities in the area. For example, you can participate in guided hikes, wine tastings and culinary festivals or visit exhibitions by local artists, museums, castles, (flea) markets, music festivals, historic villages and an open-air theater or enjoy cycling, canoeing on the Ardeche River (Vallon Pont d'Arc is about 35 km away and is very popular with tourists in summer as it is the departure point for the descent of the gorge of the Ardeche River), bungee jumping, and if it is a cold winter, you can cross-country ski for 25 km at the nearby resort. 16 km away there is the remote town of Aubenas which has a large regional market every Saturday. You will also find boutiques and well-known supermarket chains here.
