DescriptionDomaine de Romefort lies just five minutes from the medieval pilgrimage site of St Leonard de Noblat. This town, as well as Domaine de Romefort, is located on the centuries-old pilgrimage route that runs between St Jacques de Compostella (Spain) and Rome. The origin of the word Romefort comes from “Romaeus” and “fort” - a solid and secure (Roman) place for the protection of pilgrims. It was along many of these pilgrimage routes that “Romeforts” arose.
Domaine de Romefort is situated in the department of Haute Vienne (just above the Dordogne) and is 20 kilometers from the city of Limoges. This is an ideal place for hikers as well as for families who love nature and are looking for a place to hold a family reunion. Domaine de Romefort is an old farm that has been transformed into 11 luxurious cottages. There is also a chambre d'hote (bed and breakfast) with swimming pool. The complex covers 28 hectares and includes fields and woods.
The environment is very diverse, green and hilly and the views are simply magnificent. On the east side of Romefort you-ll find an extensive rural area around the Lac de Vassiviere. This lake is 10 square kilometers and provides the opportunity for a number of water sports. The forests in the vicinity are ideal for hiking and mountain biking. 15 minutes away (by car) lies a recreational lake. Here there is a guarded beach and an area with activities. Furthermore, the Vienne River runs along the domaine. This river is suitable for canoes. Along the river you can find many mills that are still in use.
